2005 Thistle rally.      37 years our clubs been doing this and its the first time we've ever turned folks away. So I'm starting the write up with an apology to those folks who never got a ticket and weren't allowed to come. As it happened on the day the weather man across the country played a black ace and buried many roads under a few inches of snow which meant a few folks couldnt get out their drives never mind ride 300 miles to the rally which meant there were a coupla spaces vacant at the rally. So to you who never got a ticket SORRY. (but get yersel booked early fer next year)

Before I start rantin on about the rally I'd also like to say a massive thanks to our hosts David (manager) Shona (assistant manager) and all the staff at the Tinto Country Hotel. They worked harder than any of us ensuring the Thistle Rally was a success yet again.

Thanks All at the Tinto

Its just the luck of the draw I suppose, some years howlin gales and the worst rain, some years glorious sunshine with a sun blazin in the sky (though you'd think it was just painted up there coz it never really heats anything up) and other years the bikers best friend "snow". This year we had a wee bit'o'the white stuff on Friday morning then as it cleared up we had glorious sunshine. Or was that a different rally??
Friday morning is always the usual chaos but we seemed prety organized this year with two Transit vans being loaded up the night before it meant we could leave earlyish and get the marquee set up without any help from our visitors. note here: in thepast weve had the first rallyists and even the local coalman help us when he was doing his rounds.

Carol on the other hand was busy trying to track down our rally teeshirts which had been delayed. She ended up chasin an Amtrak van over half central region so she could get doon tae the rally and start bookin folks in. At this point a'hd like tae say thanks tae Amtrak who were very helpful and gave her the drivers mobile number so she could meet up with him on his rounds. It saved the sittin in the hoos waitin for hours scenario, and meant we could get back on schedule quickly. Ah would also like to Thank Andy at Black Dragon Badges for getting the tee shirts done on time. Again he pulled out all the stops and got them to us in a very short time.

The shows on and more and more people were startin tae arrive. The usual mellee of bikers bookin in and gettin the very best of service at the kitchen in the marquee. OK it might no be the very very best but as its aw free ah canny think of anythin better.
As the bikes weren't allowed on the lawns we'd set up our wee air blower and a car battery in a wheel barrow so's folk could at least blow their airbeds up at their tents. I dont know if the idea worked or not as sometimes you had tae wander as far tae find it.
Marquee up, kitchens running, cookers cookin, boilers boilin, book in bookin in its time tae build ma ain tent. With one thing or another it only took a total of six hours from the time I unpacked it until I finally got the airbeds blown up and the five under blankets , two sleepin bags each, extra duvet for on top completed. A record I thought as it usualy takes until darkness falls.
Friday evening came and strangely we had two bands booked. Ah say strangely coz we never used to have any and we only had one booked for the Saturday. Hmmm the wrong way round me thinks.
Davey who's in our club and his mate Ian form the band I D (Ian and Davey) They started off about six oclock I think and played for hours. Ah say I think coz at first ah thought they were just warmin up but everytime ah passed the hall they were playin and folks were up jiggin. Maybe they did a warm up and got carried away but in any case they were on for hours and well enjoyed by all. Certainley warmed the punters up for a blinder of a party. Well done you two. If you'd like tae book ID get in touch with our club and we'll pass on the details.
Big thanks tae Ian and Davey who are ID
Main band on Friday was Carols favourite "FLINT". Their mix of Scottish, Irish and Yehaa certainly seems tae go down well and even a coupla numbers wi bag pipes and bohdran keepin most folks happy and bouncin aboot the dance floor.
When Flint stopped for a wee while tae catch their breath Carol did the usual wee birthday cake bit. This is a throwback to previous years when somebody always gets a cake or happy birthday sang to them. This year it was Vicky who was het on the Friday night.

Then it was back tae Flint for more hoochin and choochin and bouncin aboot.

Big thanks tae Woody and the crew who are Flint.
They also played on for a bit leavin Trogg tae finish off
The party went extremely well. Ah could tell because we were responsible for emptying the hall and nae body seemed tae want tae leave. Usually we have a wee word with Trogg and he does a couple of wind doon numbers tae try and end the evenin on a gentle note. This year folks got back oot their seats and started jiggin tae the wind doon songs.
Once the last oh the folks made their way oot it was up to the marquee tae see how well Carol was copin. Her and Dave Newman assisted by Carols son Ray and Coby jnr had it all in hand.
A wee place that ah always like is the marquee after the pubs shut. Its cozier than ootside (read warmer) where its aboot minus six degrees (centigrade that is) and theres always a great atmosphere. It takes about an hour tae dish oot the burgers, pies, sausages and eggs on rolls, even all at once if ye want, and then it settles down to the die hards who wish parties lasted for ever or at least until ye drop doon. Which is exactly what wee Alec did , ootside and landed on a tent peg. Oh he was OK but tryin tae bash a four feet long steel marquee peg into the ground with your head is never a great idea. Mr Paramedic was very concerned. No aboot Alec's heed but the fact that he couldny stand. Wrappin him up in a space blanket we let him sleep it off for a few hours in the marquee where we could keep a watchful on him and seen him OK
Well the Thistle party goes on and the stragglers seem tae drop doon aboot four AM and then we have a wee clear up and in tae oor ain tent.
