Sponsored By At last! after a ten year lay off when all we had for the Crann was a wee camping/invitation weekend we've
finally got the CrannTara Cruinneachadh to be a rally again.
Thanks David, Janis and Family.
Friday came, and as usual, the best made plans were laid to waste and I was a wee bit late leaving the hoos. Ahd organised with Danny to meet him at the Stirling
services at 1:15pm and ride up to Amulree. Arriving at 20 past I had no idea whether Danny had been and gone or not. I waited until half past and thinking "Danny's
never late" I set off. Wrong! Danny was late and knowing what I'm like he thought if he said 1:15 I'd get there for 1:45. Everyone who knows me knows how to get
me someplace at a designated time. Doh!! Danny stood aboot until the back of
two waiting.
Thanks Jackie
Folks were by now turning up and beginning to party. Carol was doing an excellent job with the book and directing every one to the campsite (not visible from the
road) and informing them where the loos were and that we'd set up a 12 volt battery with a wee airbed blower and a wheel barrow for carting stuff aboot in the campsite for all to use.
Trogg was there as usual with his disco to provide a wee musical ambiance and what a great job he was doing. I know he sometimes goes a wee bit squewhiff with
his choice of music but tonight he was doing great until, I think it was Christine from the IB's who was picking the tunes. Thank F*&^k he didn’t have any Wham in his collection :-)
Saturday afternoon was more of the same. Bookin in settlin folks down and havin a wee blether when time permitted. The finishing touches. (engraving the last trophy)
Saturday night came and Trogg began playing some tunes until the band arrived. Once they came they apologised for the interruption while they set up their gear and
did a couple of sound checks. I don’t know why the bothered apologising coz everybody wanted to get up and dance during the sound checks. As soon Dave began
strummin his National steel gueetar folks feet were tappin on the floor and smiles were comin on their faces. "This isnae even a warm up its only sound checks". The
band being set up it was of to the hotel for some dinner for them and Trogg was left to hold the fort. Judging by the noise coming through from the bar the party
atmosphere was kicking off nicely. Ah don’t know what Jimmy FatBastardPieEater was doing but the racket was awesome as folks were in hysterics at his banter.
More noise from that one table than from the entire hall. Some of the Louden MCC and the Hillbilies were there adding to the commotion. This was only half past
seven at night. I say some of the Louden coz Gus was lying oot the back spread-eagled on the ground. When I went over to check he was OK he opened his eyes,
rolled over and grabbed his bottle shouting "F*&k off!! its mah buckfast" You’ll be fine then Gus.
Before the band came on we had a wee birthday celebration. Davy Clark was celebrating more years than he could remeber. It was up with the Birthday banner and oot wi the cake and everybody sang Happy Birthday. Many Happy returns Davy
The band "Radiotones" began playing at aroond half past nine. It’s always hard to get good bands for wee rallies. Big events are easier coz you can splash the cash.
We'd been searching for weeks for the right sound for this wee doo. We wanted different from the usual rock or blues covers that you hear at most rallies and this
being small it was important to us to get it right. We'd originally booked a young Bluegrass band who unfortunately had to cancel. With only three weeks to go it was
back to the internet for Carol who found the Radiotones straight away. Step forward these heroes, Dave Arcari and co. A wee listen to their sound clips had us
convinced. Take a look at their website for yersel.
WWW.RADIOTONES.COM.When ah phoned Dave up to see if they could play his first words were
"have you ever seen the band" "No" "were no everybody’s cup of tea". This was convincing me further. In his own words he described their music as "Trash
countrynwestern, rock, blues, punk and a we bit Cajun chucked in. Basically were just fucked up". My reply was "We like fucked up can you do it". And so they
were here. We'd cheated a wee bit on Friday night and played their excellent, latest album "BOUND TO RIDE" (which can be bought here BUY IT HERE) through Troggs disco so folks wouldn't be totally surprised by their sound. It was good to hear
someone remark that the CD didn’t do the band justice. Suppose watchin a band live and hearing a recording is a bit like reading a book then watchin the film. Books
and Live Bands win. With only a small venue and a full disco unit beside them there wasn’t a lot of room for the band but big Dave let rip and provided a fantastic
performance. Worth watchin even if you don’t like the music. It was great watchin a band that played coz they enjoyed it as opposed to the ones who come for the
cash. There were a coupla wee grumbles from folks with lead feet who couldn’t get up to dance to the music. "No they don’t play Mustang Sally and ACDC is for
some other place and time". Maybe they didn’t know the steps. Take note "go to line dancin lessons" and you wont be far off. But all in all most of us enjoyed them
thoroughly and had a good wee bounce around.
Thanks Dave, Adrian and Don. "The Radiotones"
Hopefully we'll hear Jim on the moothie playing with yooz at the Thistle. me 'n' Carol wi our new found heroes
At half time as usual it was time to honour the revered few who had excelled in some way for this rally. After making a complete pigs ear of this at the Thistle I was
careful to have my pace notes ready.
Awards were as follows.
Youngest Rallyist:......................Alistair Clowes. (again)
A special mention must go to the Rampant Lion Rally Club who with almost a 100% turnout equalled the Louden but their combined mileage was less. Well done but
hard lines.
The prizes over it was time to get on with the raffle. As we're not slow to go on the cadge for prizes its time to thank our sponsors. This wee rallies raffle was
sponsored by...........
The Edge Public Bar Falkirk and
Big thanks to both.
Joe won the bottle of 10year old from "The glen of tranquillity"
The prize giving, raffle and politeities over it was time to settle down, have a couple of beers and let the party continue. Thanks to all who came.
When we saw the Amulree hotel under new management at the start of the year we knew it would be possible. We've had both the Thistle and the Crann here many
times in the past and it was always on our minds to return. We started the prep for this as soon as we'd got over the Thistle and approached the new owners David
and Janis who were only too keen to have us along. I don’t think they knew then exactly what they were letting themselves in for coz neither had run a hotel before
never mind had one filled with a hundred bikers. We'd like to thank them for even considering the challenge.
Apology necessary "Sorry Homer" maybe next time
I got up to Amulree at around 2:15 to be greeted by two happy smiling faces. Spider, who I'd already spoke to in Creiff and Pete West who had already set about
the pubs finest foaming ale. It was still early and David and co from the pub had everything sorted and set out with such precision that when every one else arrived
they thought we were a very professional outfit. Signs were up on the hotel directing bikers to the check in. We were more or less separated from the main hotel into
what used to be known as the Barn Bar. A wee favourite with rally goers from years gone by. Its smoo, snug, rough and ready. Ideal for a great party and less hassle
for organisers coz we don’t need to worry too much about what damage could be done.
Unlike the hotel which was refurbished this summer. Concrete floors meant
no brand new carpets to be covered in fag burns and spilled beer. A great wee place to chill out. You’d never believe that a month ago this whole part of the building
was like a Beirut tenement.
The rally site was marked out with tape as two separate parts with a fire escape up the middle. The portaloos were in position with a signpost. Floors were swept,
tables laid and the bar open.
Great !! have a wee beer with Pete and Spider and take up residency at one of the picnic tables in the campsite. This is the wee bit that I like about rallies. Sittin doon
and havin a wee bit of banter and right good craich. Carol and Jackie arrived in the rally support vehicles. A Ford and a Rover. Time to get the tent pitched and get
everything sorted for booking in.
A first for me at oor ain rallies was to be semi organised. Tent went up complete with poles and pegs as I usually forget one or other or even all three.
Everything sorted we spent another wee hour waiting on the rest of the important people to arrive.
Carol took care of the booking in aided by her pal Jackie who even though she's not a club member was an invaluable help, making tea'n'coffee for folks when they
arrived and just generally being helpful.
At this point I'll say a massive thanks to Jackie
Friday night was a wee quiet affair with only 40 or so folks arriving. The Iron Belles were wondering what they’d subscribed to and were thinking of pissing off to
another rally the following morning. After a wee reassurance they settled in and enjoyed the banter.
The hotel's main building being recently redecorated and looking more akin to having little old ladies for afternoon teas (funny that but it sounds familiar) wasn't quite
the place for 40 or so bikers. Spider adopted his usual gravity defying position at one of the tables. The staff concerned that he was slightly over inebriated asked
Carol to kindly remove him to a place where his sleepiness could be worn off in a more suitable and safer environment. (his bed). After a wee reassurance by Carol
that this was quite normal, ie. we see him spend the first part of an evening like this many a time, they seemed to settle to the idea. Two minutes later Spider succumbed to the forces acting upon his upper body and keeled over onto the floor. This however had the desired effect on the bar staff who realised it woke him quicker than any alarm call and Spider began to rejoin the rest of us.
After dinner and niceties in the hotel it was off back down to the Barn Bar where we could sit down, chill and enjoy the frivolities.

After the bar closed we retired to the stable where we sat and partied until the wee sma hoors. I think it was about 5:30 when the last stragglers went to bed. Carol
using the excuse that somebody had to supervise the rabble. Aye right Carol whit aboot every other rally we go tae.
Saturday dawned a very short time after this. The weather man dealt us a good wan and the sun was splittin the skies. Ah'd thought we might organise a wee ride oot
but everybody seemed happy gawn daein their ain thing. Graham and Lesley from the Anasazi club (matching Pan Euros) went a wee run doon to Buchanty (aboot 6
miles Sooth) to see the Salmon leaping up a wee spout on the river Almond. I’ve been to Amulree loadsa times and it took a Yorkshireman to tell me about some of
the local attractions. (note for next year: learn more about the area so I don’t get embarrassed by visitors who'd never been there before) I think they’d been planning a bigger run but as they rode up with Stu and Sal who was still shattered after her run up on Friday decided on a few short hops instead. Ah'l mention at this point that Sal's furthest bike run before this has been about 30 miles and this lot dragged up here on her ER5. A total journey of 297 miles. Well done that lass. When your in
God’s country there’s no real need to go far as the roads and scenery around Amulree are some of the best anywhere so hopefully they enjoyed themselves. Graham
did however decline the run across Glen Quiach to Kenmore. I think it was the thought of having to stop and open and close the gates on the way up and down the
mountain that put him off.
Ah think meal time in the hotel restaurant was a wee bit askew but to be fair to David and Janis they'd never done this before and we know that every rally is different so it’s difficult to plan exactly. All in all though they did an excellent job coping with the vast numbers, about 80 more than the restaurant is designed to cope with, and they managed not to let the stress get to them. Hopefully everybody got fed at some point in time and came back to the Barn to get on with the party.
Carol on the other hand was blowing fuses right, left and centre but even she managed to cope. (ahm writing this on Wednesday now and the stress is finally beginning to wear off.)(good ! might get ma tea made tonight then) :-)

This is the reason we as a club do this. "tae bring laughter and joy to all who come and have a right good shindig"

Another big thanks comin on.
Oldest Rallyist:..........................Frank Steel (gone to bed again)
Furthest Travelled Male:............Puker(again)
Furthest travelled Female:..........Jill Saunders (again)
Best Bike:.................................Joe Plumbley (Harley)
Aggregate Mileage:..................Anasazi Club
Club Turnout:............................Louden MCC.
And a special "SPIRIT of THE RALLY" mention goes to Davie Pirrie of the Hillbilies MCC for painting the fiery cross on his head.
The Radiotones were on for their second stint and the barn was rockin. Even though we'd opened up the big sliding doors the sweat was dropping of big Dave like
rain. Where the feck does that guy get the energy. A brilliant time was had with folks jiggin on the wee space in front of the band and folks jiggin in the big courtyard
ootside. Ah don’t know what the neighbours five miles away up the glen thought but it was Fekin magic.
When the band finished it was back to Trogg to keep the party going. Here’s where ye get yer ACDC's and Mustang Sallies. Moody Blues, Deep Purples and all
manner of other colourful musics. The party raged on.
After the bar closed it was a retiral to the stable for a wee sit doon and blether. I think it was around half past five when Trogg finally shut down the music and around
seven thirty when the heavy weights finally went to bed. I remember hearing some bodies alarm going off as I walked to my tent.
All in all a great wee party. Enjoyed by everyone. So here's tae next year when we'll dae it all again.
